I’m looking forward to presenting today to a top global brand on leading with empathy. Here are a few of the statistics I’ll share, pulled from this year’s Deloitte Well-being at Work Survey:
•52% of workers always or often feel exhausted, 49% stressed, 33% lonely, 32% depressed, and 27% angry
•75% of respondents say improving their well-being is more important than advancing their career
•60% of employees, 64% of managers, and 75% of the C-suite are seriously considering quitting (all up from last year)
•Just 1 in 3 employees feel their job has a positive impact on their well-being; 40% say it has a negative effect on their mental health
How do we turn this around? Empathy. In fact, 80% of employees would leave their job for a more empathetic employer; 57% would take a pay cut to do so. Managers have a greater impact on mental health than doctors and therapists—equal to that of spouses and partners. (These stats are from UKG’s study on mental health at work)
We have to get better at helping our colleagues to feel seen, supported, and valued. Reach out if you’d like to learn more about how.
