What a day this is. I think we’re all exhausted after a long night, and a long and contentious campaign. Some are thrilled at the outcome, and some are devastated. Either way, a few thoughts on how to get through today.

1. Acknowledge your feelings. Give yourself time to process. It can help just to name your feeling–give it an adjective or a few. Write, exercise, make art, whatever helps you to think.

2. Connect with others. First, with those who are likely feeling the way you are. Talking out your feelings can help you to understand how you feel and to know you’re not alone.

3. Reach out. Then, when you’re ready, find someone who likely feels differently than you. This campaign separated us so much, but we’re one nation, and we need to walk into the future together. Seek to understand another perspective. Connecting with another’s humanity has never hurt me, and always helped.

If you’re looking for some support, consider joining Aisha Ferguson, and me this Friday, Nov. 8 from 4-5pm ET. This is a chance for those who are showing up for others through this week to discuss what’s worked and what hasn’t, what surprised them or inspired them, and how they’re taking care of themselves. Register here.
