It’s a pretty special day for me. Today is one year from the day that my book, The Empathetic Workplace, entered the world. It’s the book into which I poured all of my best advice on how to support each other at work, to talk about hard things, and to take care of ourselves as we do it. I wrote about why it’s so important that we show up for one another, and why it can be hard sometimes. I shared my own stories, like the hotline call that launched me on this career path, and the time my wife and I were victims.

The book has opened doors I didn’t even know about–I’ve spoken to groups around the world, coached CEOs of publicly-traded corporations, trained at the Fortune 1 company. My work is published at Fast Company, PsychCentral, Thrive Global, CEOWorld, Compliance Week, Law.com, and soon will be in the Harvard Business Review.

Book sales, to my surprise, are actually going UP right now. The reviews are so wonderful to see:
“This thoughtful read is a must-have when navigating today’s workforce. Manning provides well-researched and actionable ways to create a responsible workplace.”
“I highly recommend this read not only to business professionals and managers, but also parents, teachers, law enforcement and any other person who wants to better the process of safely and effectively reaching out. Bravo, Ms. Manning.”
“I am asking our ownership to purchase copies for all managers in the company. A very useful book and a great read.”

Best of all are the connections I’ve made. I’ve met so many people, from companies and schools, nonprofits and law firms, who are working to create organizations that are more human-centered, inclusive, empathetic, and supportive. Mostly what I feel today is gratitude–for this experience and for all who helped to make it happen. So my friends, thank you for joining me on this journey and for all the support you’ve provided along the way.
