It’s Crime Victims’ Rights Week! Did you know that more than 18M victim crimes are committed each year, and fewer than 10% of serious violent crime victims receive services? It’s a great time to support the incredible organizations supporting victims, like the ones below. Many of them take volunteers, and they all could use donations. Let’s help them continue to support those who need it most.
RAINN–RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE, online.rainn.org y rainn.org/es) in partnership with more than 1,000 local sexual assault service providers across the country and operates the DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense. RAINN also carries out programs to prevent sexual violence, help survivors, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.
EVAWI–We inspire and educate those who respond to gender-based violence, equipping them with the knowledge and tools they need to support victims and hold perpetrators accountable. We promote victim-centered, multidisciplinary collaboration, which strengthens the response of the criminal justice system, other professionals, allies, and the general public — making communities safer.
Human Trafficking Legal Center–We create a bridge between trafficking survivors and highly skilled pro bono legal representation. Together we work to hold traffickers accountable for their crimes through civil litigation and criminal restitution. The Human Trafficking Legal Center gains compensation for survivors so that they can reclaim their lives. We are a non-profit organization, monitoring the federal government and working to improve federal policy to benefit trafficking survivors.
Polaris–Founded in 2002, Polaris is named for the North Star, which people held in slavery in the United States used as a guide to navigate their way to freedom. Today we are filling in the roadmap for that journey and lighting the path ahead.
NCVLI–NCVLI’s mission is to actively promote balance and fairness in the justice system through crime victim centered legal advocacy, education, and resource sharing.
NOVA–Founded in 1975, NOVA is the oldest national victim assistance organization of its type in the United States and is the recognized leader in victim advocacy, education and credentialing.
Homicide Family Advocates–In 2017, there were 17,284 murders in the US: one every 30 minutes. Since 1980, there have been more than 211,000 unsolved murders. For the hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Americans who have lost a loved one to murder, life is never the same. This is where HFA comes in.
NCVC–The mission of the National Center for Victims of Crime is to forge a national commitment to help victims of crime rebuild their lives. We are dedicated to serving individuals, families, and communities harmed by crime.
National Domestic Violence Hotline–With nearly two-and-a-half decades of experience answering the call to support and shift power back to people affected by relationship abuse, the history of The Hotline is full of bold leadership and selfless advocacy.
